Brainfood at the White House....Again!
Brainfood returned to the White House on October 31st to help the White House Kitchen throw a Halloween party for the President and First Lady's guests, including military families and White House and Residence Staff children.
First invited to the White House over the summer to help prepare for the July 4th barbeque and Congressional Luau, Brainfood teens were recently asked back to assist Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford and her staff to prepare for another holiday event. Throughout Saturday, several Brainfood students helped Chef Comerford prepare Halloween-themed treats for the party.
It never gets old to hear that the White House wants Brainfood students to assist the chefs with an event. At a time when many nonprofits are struggling to keep their doors open, it is gratifying that people throughout the city, and especially our most famous residents, are taking note of the power that Brainfood has to transform the lives of local teens. It's opportunities like these that show our youth that anything is possible.
As a result of continued outreach into the community, Brainfood's students are gaining more opportunities to experience life outside of their daily reality, including developing mentor relationships and cooking in the kitchens of local restaurants. By repeatedly opening its doors to local youth, the White House inspires and motivates Brainfood's students to continue to raise expectations of themselves in the hopes that they will be the next ones selected to cook with the White House chefs.
White House visits are certainly the highest profile Brainfood experiences, but just one of many that are truly transformative. Please help us to keep these opportunities coming for DC's youth and make a tax-deductible contribution today!
